Mom Hacks: Keeping Up With Socks

By Monique of Walk.Run.Repeat - June 13, 2017

Socks are the bane of my existence. Sure, I love them; especially cute, comfy ones with quirky writing but what I don’t love is how I seem to lose them every time I wash clothes. My husband and I were having a conversation about life which lead us to the topic of socks and why they always seem to disappear. After he expressed his frustration with them for the umpteenth time, I suggested he take a page from my book: throw every single pair away and start all over again. One pack of white, one pack of black, and dress socks for work. Boom! Done and done!

After he recovered from this mind-blowing realization that it just might work, he suggested I write this post to tell everyone about my super favorite hack. I refuse to spend hours on hours looking for matching pairs of socks; my patience isn’t there anymore. I couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if I controlled the environment? If I limited the number of socks there are, surely, I wouldn’t lose as many, right?

Lo and behold, both of my boys received brand new socks at the top of the year and I am happy to announce that they have not lost a single pair! Not one! Here are a few tips and tricks that have worked for me:
  • When you take them off, ball them up together so that they are with one another. It lessens the chances of losing one.
  • When you do laundry, wash all the socks together and nothing else. If a sock is washed with a towel, there’s a good chance it could get stuck to it and fall somewhere and never be found. I only wash socks with socks.
  • Have a separate hamper for socks. Don’t put dirty socks in with the regular dirty clothes. Keep them separate.
  • When you buy your new packs, buy one white, one black, and one dress pack. Nothing else.

I hope these tips help you as much as they have me. Believe me, I understand how frustrating it can be but let’s avoid them going into the Black Hole of Sock death but doing these easy hacks.
