2018 Goal Setting | Health Edition

By Monique of Walk.Run.Repeat - January 05, 2018

Hi there and welcome back to Walk.Run.Repeat. I took a little hiatus for the month of the December to focus on celebrating the holidays with my family...as I should have. And now, it's a new year which means, new goals!

Now, if you aren't the goal setting type, then this post may not be for you. I'm a goal setter; I love having something to work towards and then challenge myself to obtain it. In this post, I'm going to focus on health goal setting.

My husband and I decided that we are tired of being "fluffy" and that a change is necessary. No more late night snacking, sugary foods and things of that sort. It's time to get serious and I do mean DEAD serious about our health. We sat down over the Christmas holiday and really mapped out our health goals. I'm a lover of spreadsheets (ask anyone I know and they will tell you) so I added a new tab to our this year that focuses on health. Here's what we have so far:

Our Approach
We are approaching this by quarters. I think one of the reasons so many people fail (including myself) with goals is that they look at this as a sprint and not a marathon. Quarters make it easier and allow us to set smaller, achievable goals while still pushing ourselves. Whatever we don't achieve in the first quarter, rolls over to the second quarter and so on.

Big Ticket Items
The big ticket items for us in the first quarter are eliminating sugar, white carbs, consistent exercise and better sleeping habits. Sugar is going to be a STRUGGLE for us but we can do it. Carbs, I'm not too concerned about but exercise, let's just say, there will be many late nights and early mornings around here. Sleep is essential. We are such nightowls so we will really have to work hard at getting to bed each night.

Outcomes
2018 is going to be a huge push. My personal health outcome is a healthy pregnancy. As you know, we are really trying for Baby #3 this year and it is my hope and prayer that it happens. I just want to make sure that my body is in the best shape possible to handle all that comes with pregnancy when you're 30+.

What are your health goals for 2018?
